10 comedians-turned-cartoon stars

As "Kung Fu Panda 2" brings Jack Black's Po the Panda flying back into theaters, we look at some other masters of mirth who've voiced our favorite animated lead roles.

 'Shrek'
This award-winning ogre and his band of dysfunctional fairy-tale characters have achieved Top 10 status.
 'Megamind'
This supervillain with a heart of gold was voiced by a former member of the Groundlings who knows his way around a cowbell.
 'Open Season'
Boog the Bear is a lovably gruff grizzly that gets a reality check when he's punked by a goofy buck.
  'Despicable Me'

Gru is a dastardly mastermind — with an out-of-this-world scheme — whose heart is melted by a trio of orphans.
  'Bee Movie'
Not only did this comedian provide the voice of Barry B. Benson in this buzz-worthy flick, he wrote the screenplay as well.
  'Ratatouille'

Remy, the Parisian pest who dreams of being a gourmet chef, led this Pixar film to achieve high honors.
  'Horton Hears a Who!'
In this Seussian adaptation, Horton the Elephant risks his life to prove "a person's a person, no matter how small."
  'Ice Age'

In this series Manny the Woolly Mammoth is the reluctant leader of a ragtag crew of prehistoric pals trying to avoid extinction.
'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs'
In this children's book adapted for the big screen, Flint Lockwood is a screwy scientist whose invention accidentally floods the world with food.

Lindsay Lohan

Tuesday, 17 May 2011

Lindsay Lohan was already an experienced performer when she made her feature debut in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.
Born in New York City, Lohan began modeling at age three. After appearing in numerous TV commercials, Lohan moved to series TV with a role on the soap operaAnother World from 1996 to 1997. Cast as The Parent Trap's scheming twin sisters after a six month search for just the right girl, Lohan succeeded in filling Hayley Mills' shoes, winning over audiences with her pert charm as both the Californian Hallie and the British-raised Annie. She subsequently starred in the Disney TV film Life-Size (2000). Subsequently cast in actress Bette Midler's short-lived sitcom Bette, Lohan took a turn as a teenage gossip columnist (Get a Clue[2002]) before turning up in yet another remake of a Disney classic, Freaky Friday (2003). Stepping into the shoes formerly filled by Jodie Foster, Lohan and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis brought a winning, new chemistry to the film that made it a sleeper summer hit.
Lohan kicked off 2004 with her first big starring vehicle, the comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Met with mixed reviews and modest box-office receipts, the film didn't cross over from the teen audience the way Friday did. Only a mere two months later, Lohan proved she could carry a film. The Tina Fey-penned Mean Girls debuted at number one, recouping its budget and then some in its first week of release. The spotlight on the then-16-year-old Lohan changed almost overnight, as she quickly became a tabloid fixture: speculation on her body, her nightclubbing, her string of high-profile boyfriends, her incarcerated father, and her feuds with a variety of other young female celebrities became inescapable. Perhaps predictably, 2004 also saw Lohan branch out into the world of pop music with the album Speak; the supposedly confessional -- and similarly undistinguished -- A Little More Personal followed in 2005.
All of the hullabaloo seemed to have little effect on her work, as she starred in Herbie: Fully Loaded for Disney -- suffering a bout of "exhaustion" on set -- before graduating to more adult fare with Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion. Playing a morose poetess, the young actress ably held her own against Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin when the film opened in 2006; around that time, her first shot at a "grown-up" romantic comedy, Just My Luck, opened to little notice from the public or critics.
Undaunted, Lohan set to work on another grande-dame comedy, Georgia Rule, in which she played a wayward, risk-taking teenage girl who is hauled off to live with her stern grandmother (Jane Fonda) for the summer. Perhaps fittingly, Lohan's own tardy behavior on the Georgia Rule set prompted a very public memo from the film's backers, who claimed her late-night partying was endangering the shoot; a short stay in rehab followed in early 2007. For all the publicity generated by Lohan's wild-child routine, Georgia Rule tanked when it opened in May of that year, although many critics preferred Lohan's performance over those of her histrionic co-stars Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman. The actress' R-rated summer blitz continued with the thriller I Know Who Killed Me, just as her work in the widely panned Mark David Chapman biopic Chapter 27 made the festival rounds. This trifecta of flops was complemented by an increasingly erratic public image, as she found herself involved in two DUI arrests within two months' time that same summer. Both prompted stays in rehab, as well as mammoth media attention.

Cannes 2011

Another title that will compete at the 64th Cannes Film Festival is Michael, an upcoming Austrian drama film directed by Markus Schleinzer.
Just in case you’re not familiar with Schleinzer’s work, don’t worry, because this movie is the first feature he’s directed, and it is a first-time competitor for the Palme.
Reportedly based on the real-life story of a 10-year-old Austrian girl who was kidnapped and held prisoner for eight years by a man she called “Master”, this movie describes the last five months of 10-year-old Wolfgang and 35-year-old Michael’s involuntary life together. Unfortunately, we currently know too little about the film, and as you see just these two photos from the movie as well.
Director Schleinzer is responsible for the script as well, and the movie stars Michael Fuith as Michael and David Rauchenberger as Wolfgang, while the rest of the cast includes Christine Kain, Ursula Strauss, Viktor Tremmel and Gisela Salcher.

Rachel maddow beck

In a sequel to is "Restoring Honor" rally that took place in Washington last year, media personality Glenn Beck is planning to hold a "Restoring Courage" rally in Jerusalem, Israel. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow is not pleased.
Maddow's beef apparently stems from the belief that Beck's presence in the Middle East will somehow upset the carefully crafted maneuvers that President Barack Obama has made to bring peace to that troubled region.
"'What American export can be less helpful to the Middle East than that?' she asked.
"'Whatever your own politics around Israel and the Palestinians, everybody can agree that this moment in the Middle East is even more delicate than usual,' Maddow said. "It is time for deliberate calm, for a light touch.'"
One wonders what Maddow thinks that Beck means to do in Israel. Bring about Armageddon? Unlikely,
"Last summer we set out to Restore Honor in Washington, DC. This summer it is time to Restore Courage. Taking a stand is not always easy, but now more than ever it is imperative that we live with conviction and do the right thing. It is time for us to courageously stand with Israel.
"I invite you to join me in Israel this summer to stand together and show the world what living a life of faith and honor really means. I invite you to join me in my quest to Restore Courage."
It seems somewhat less dire than Maddow's obvious fear that Beck wants to jump start the End Times. A hundred or so thousand people, probably mostly evangelical Christians and Orthodox Jews rallying in favor of courage and faith and no doubt clean living isn't the sort of thing to be alarmed about. Of course the local Muslim terrorists will be upset about it. But if it's not one thing, it'll be something else.
Glenn Beck may be a real life, latter day version of Howard Beal, the Mad Prophet of the Airwaves, but he is at least entertaining and occasionally wise. Besides, one commodity that the Middle East has in abundance is mad prophets. One might say that it is the birthplace of mad prophecy. One more is not going to make a difference.

Danielle staub real housewives

As previously announced, Danielle Staub is officially gone -- but not forgotten -- from "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" after two seriously drama-packed seasons.
"I'm way too good for this," Staub, 48, tells Us. "They have used me about as much as I can be used."
Since the moment the Garden State version of the franchise debuted last year, Staub clashed with the four other housewives, despite an initial friendship with Jacqueline Laurita.

"I think it's time for me to move on and upward," says Staub. "I don't see any interest for me to be attacked like that."
"I mean, what's left for To kill me? Bravo seems to be glorifying their behavior. And I think it's almost like telling children to behave poorly at school, 'It's OK.' "

"I want my own show," she tells Us.
"I want to be me now," Staub continues. "Not me according to other people. Me ... A spin-off is absolutely, positively where I'm going."

A spin-off, she says, would allow "my kids to be seen for the wonderful children that they are. I want to be shown as a mother, an artist, a supporter of my charities and the foundations that I'm passionate about. I want to use my platform to speak about the things that I love in my life."

What about the future of "RHONJ" post-Danielle? "The bottom line is, they need me, I don't need them," she says. "They don't talk about anything but me. I don't talk about them, at all. I talk about me too!"
She adds: "I have no need for them in my life. They have a great need for me to make the show successful. I made it successful."

One topic her spin-off might cover: her continued search for her birth mother. "I did not give [this] to Bravo because I felt like there was no fair portrayal of me and my family ... to share with people who didn't even want to portray me as a human being."
"So that will be shared," Staub says. "I will do a breaking story on that when it does come out and it will be a part of my spin-off."
Life these days? "Life is fantastic!" she tells Us. "I am far too busy to be around things that don't make me feel good and people that don't make me feel good."

How i met your mother

Created by former Late Show with David Letterman writers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the 30-minute CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother was, per its title, related entirely in flashback, from the vantage point of 2030.
The hero, Ted (his "old" voice provided by Bob Saget) was endeavoring to regale his children with the stories of how he wooed and won his wife and their mother. The main action took place in "the present," after the twentysomething Ted (played in flashback by Josh Radnor) decided to take upon himself a bride after the unexpected engagement of his friend Marshall (Jason Segel) to the lovely Lily (Alyson Hannigan). Ted had his sights set on a girl named Robin (Cobie Smulders), but there was no guarantee that she would ultimately be the "mother" of the title, not as long as Mike allowed himself to be immersed in the what-the-hell lifestyle of the early 21st century. Providing snide sidelines comments (and most of the laughs) was Ted's know-it-all best pal, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). How I Met Your Mother premiered on September 19, 2005.

Donald Trump 2012 Bows Out

Trump bows out of 2012 presidential race
Out of the presidential race before he was officially in it, the celebrity real estate mogul announced Monday he would not seek the 2012 Republican nomination. He could have won the White House, he said, but instead will continue to steer his business empire and remain host of his reality show "Celebrity Apprentice."
The announcement, ending a colorful and attention-grabbing chapter in the unfolding GOP nominating race, surprised some strategists who said Trump had been assembling a campaign team and had been expected to announce his candidacy soon. This spring, Trump had gained considerable attention by stirring renewed controversy over President Barack Obama's Hawaii birth, leading the White House to persuade the state to release a copy of Obama's long-form birth certificate after two years of dismissing the issue.

Trump revealed his decision Monday at a meeting of advertising executives who had come to learn about NBC's fall television lineup. The network had been pressing him for a decision, fearing the loss of millions of dollars in ad revenue if "Celebrity Apprentice" didn't return next year.

"I will not be running for president as much as I'd like to," Trump said to cheers from the audience.

His office also released a formal statement, in which Trump said he felt confident he could have won both the Republican nomination and a general election showdown with Obama.

"Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector," Trump said.

The Republican race lacks a clear front-runner.

Among the top hopefuls are former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. The GOP is still waiting to hear whether Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin or Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann will get in the race. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential contender, announced Saturday he would not be a candidate this time.

While Trump's consideration of a run was dismissed as a stunt some Republican pundits and lawmakers, several polls showed him at or near the top of the field both nationally and in early voting states. John McLaughlin, a pollster who would have served as the campaign's senior strategist, said he met with Trump last Thursday to finalize plans for a May 25 announcement, three days after the "Celebrity Apprentice" finale.
"There was a path for him to win. If he got in and showed he was serious, his vote would have doubled and tripled again," McLaughlin said. "His message had resonance because he was the most anti-Obama candidate or potential candidate of the bunch."

However, not all the interest he stirred was positive: In a recent Associated Press-GfK poll, he was the only potential GOP candidate to receive a 50 percent unfavorable rating by Republicans.
